Chairman and CEO
Bruinen is led by Chairman and CEO Chuck Rifici. Chuck was a pioneer in the legalization and de-stigmatization of cannabis in Canada. He knows that corporate responsibility is rooted in a culture of trust, safety and accountability. He brings this same commitment and vision to Bruinen’s digital sex-tech investments.
Director of Global Law Enforcement Relations
The last time Derek wore a uniform, it was the red serge of the RCMP. And he was Chief Superintendent, serving as Director-General of Drugs and Organized Crime, responsible for over a thousand sworn and civilian members across the country. Today, he forges trusted partnerships with law enforcement agencies and advises Bruinen on strategic acquisitions which focus on ethics, compliance and public safety.
Chief Ethics Officer
Solomon Friedman is Bruinen’s Chief Ethics Officer. He is experienced criminal and regulatory counsel and is a Certified Specialist in criminal law by the Law Society of Ontario. He is also an author and law professor and has testified many times about criminal and regulatory law before Committees of the House of Commons and the Senate. Solomon’s focus on ethical conduct guides Bruinen through every investment opportunity.

Entertainment visionary, studio co-founder and dealmaker – Sophie Watts is a force to be reckoned with. Her recent accolades include Fortune 40 under 40, Hollywood Reporter’s Power 100 and Variety’s Power of Woman Report. Sophie grew STX Entertainment from a start-up into a multi-billion-dollar media empire, establishing movie, reality and scripted TV studios.
Today, Sophie brings her drive and passion to Bruinen’s ethics-first investment portfolio, where she serves on the advisory board, counselling the team on digital entertainment strategy, brand partnerships and rich-media opportunities.
Dr. Leah West
Public Safety Advisor
Dr. Leah West is a professor of national security and intelligence and a sexual assault victims advocate. She is also an armed services veteran who served in Afghanistan and former Department of Justice national security counsel. Her research and teaching focuses on the intersection of digital spaces, public safety and national security.
Dr. West advises Bruinen on the use of digital and legal tools to support the fight against human trafficking and online exploitation.

Genevieve is an experienced executive, presently serving as Chair of the TSX-traded Auxly Cannabis Group and as President of Global Public Affairs. Although she is multi-faceted and multi-talented, ethical governance is at the centre of all of her endeavours.
